| 27th Jan 2009 | Another a'maize'ing win for Phoenix Thorn |
Yesterdays trophy match was held at Redgate park fishing for roach and crucian carp. Most of the 100 anglers who attended found that the roach on the day were quite obliging, whilst not suprisingly for the time of year the crucian carp weren't in the mood. Some excellent specimen 2 lb + roach were caught by quite a few anglers, but one stood out way above the rest, a huge 3 lb 1 oz specimen caught by Serasan. Any roach of 2 lb is considered a good fish, but a 3 lb'er is very special and certainly worthy of the 5 extra bonus points. The overall win on the day though went to Phoenix Thorn who netted 5 roach, all over 2 lbs for a total weight of 14 lbs, these were all corn on ledgered giant maize around midday. Second place went to in form Trigger, who also had five nice specimens caught mainly on fatty spice paste and DP red X in the hours just before lunch. Klamer pl made a welcome return to the top 5, with a good third place finish with a net of roach caught on fatty spice paste and tares around lunchtime. Fourth was TCorleone CZ who caught 5 roach on a range of baits including fatty luncheon meat and AD Ultra G. TCorleone also had some good sized bream very close to the tagged fish weight, but unfortunately not the exact size needed. Completing the top 5 for the day was Wojtas pl who caught 5 roach on mainly small fatty spice boiles and russell livingstone pellets. No one managed to catch the tagged fish yesterday, so the points now increase to 4 for today.
The top premier league angler of the day was Klamer pl who came in a very good 3rd place. Klamer is currently sitting mid-table and looking quite safe for another season in the top league next month, there is still a chance to take the title though but this will need some big scores on all the remaining matches. Shabba still is looking favourite for this and still holds a lead of 12 points over Morana CZ, niether angler managed to add any league points yesterday. At the bottom some good results of late for Clive has seen him move away from the drop zone. Hodgey now looks certain to demote, whilst Stiv, Pawel and Jerry CZ still have an outside chance of staying up, but this will need to some very good results in these last few matches of January.
The divison one angler of the day was TCorleone CZ, who is now in 6th place in the league. Knowing now there is likely to be 5 promotion places, only a single placed leap up the table is needed now to promote. At the top Kenny Ken jnr still heads the way with Carpy2009 challenging. Following a run of good results lately Wojtas pl has moved up into 3rd place.
Phoenix Thorn continues to romp on towards division one in the process pulling Trigger along. Both anglers occupied the top two places in yesterdays match and both have passed the magical 900 point mark, so looking likely for promotion. Jendyss CZ and Poacher hold the other two promotion places with Tris in 5th place which looks likely also to be enough for promotion this month.
In division three Luktyk pl was the top angler of the day with a 10th placed finish overall. This win has moved Luktyk up into the promotion places in the league, demoting Pikie to 5th place in the process. Mark Silver is just 6 points short of 900 points at the top with Lolli and Topman just behind.
Strangely no one managed to catch any venue records yesterday.
Today is cup final day and it is being contested this time between Kenny Ken jnr and Bertik007 CZ. This is the first ever cup final for both, so we're guaranteed a new name on the cup by the end of the day. Good luck to both. The match itself is being held on Kennet and Avon Burghfield and as normal with cup days any species can be caught, also the gudgeon rule comes into play today where anyone can head off to any venue to catch gudgeon, it's unlikely this will be used though as the fish on the Kennet seem to be obliging. The tagged fish is worth 4 bonus points and is a 2 lb 10 oz 15 dr carp. It's difficult to predict how easy this may or may not be, traditionally carp aren't easy to catch in Winter, but then again you never know and the size looks to be well with reach. Early indications show that fish are flying out, after only 43 minutes of the match it looks like 23 anglers have already caught fish. Good luck to all fishing today and especially to Bertik007 CZ and Kenny Ken jnr in the cup final.
Finally, the records time has been fixed, thanks to Trigger for pointing this out. For some reasons it was adding an hour ( 3600 seconds ) to the GMT time, this has been removed now and all should be well again.
Also on a personal note, i've been offered some work on a big project which looks likely to come off and is going to take probably 9 months or so and certainly take me away from Fishsim for a long period of time. This won't start until June 2009 though so still plenty of time yet. The downside is that I won't be able to monitor and manage trophy fishsim or do these news pages ( I can hear the cheers now lol ), but in the meantime will be looking for someone to take over the running of them temporarily. They'll still remain on fishsim.net and this site so nothing will change, it'll just be someone else keeping an eye on things and writing these reports. As far as Fishsim support goes, my wife Teres will be doing this during this period and helping out a lot more. Anyway, it's an age off yet. Good luck to all fishing today.
