The match yesterday was held at Lever Edge and with it being cup day any species of fish could be caught and submitted. Trigger completed the double with his second win in consecutive days, this time by catching five good sized pike. The winning weight of 62 lb 1 oz was made up of five pike, all caught on DB sprat fishing mainly in the morning. Second place went to Poacher, who like Trigger, also caught five pike but using DB gudgeon instead of sprat. Phoenix Thorn passed on breakfast, instead using the kippers on a freeline rig to catch pike and as a result scoop third place in the match. Ludva CZ came in fourth place with five pike, the biggest weighing a huge 16 lb which was caught at 8 am and easily the biggest fish of the day, taking the five extra bonus points. Completing the top five was TCorleone CZ with a catch of pike totalling just under 50 lbs. Nobody caught the tagged fish so the bonus rolls over to 4 points for today.

Due to the number of entrants into this months cup, there was an unusually high number of matches for the first round. One of the top matches of the day was between Morana CZ and Clive, with both finishing high in the overall standings, it was Morana CZ who progresses to the next round. One of the closest matches of the round was Tomthetroutmaster versus Nightloverbe, by the end of the match there was just a pound and a half between them, with Nightloverbe progressing. The rematch between Delboy and Stevie turned out the same as last month with Delboy just edging it again. Well done to all who got through to the next round.

At the time of writing five venue records were broken yesterday at Lever Edge. Glenn_h caught a new record gudgeon, setting the new target at 2 oz 9 dr which beats the old record held by Urasik_ru by just 4 drams. In customary winter trophy fishsim style, the pike record also was set, this time by TCorleone CZ who caught a 14 lb 10 oz specimen to set a new benchmark. The eel record fell a few times during the day, but it was a 2 lb 1 oz fish caught by Elbowdeep that sets the new venue record. The roach record was broken twice yesterday by the same angler, but the biggest that Bob Poultney caught by the end of the day was a 3 lb 1 oz fish, this beats the old record of 2 lb 12 oz which was held by Gutek pl. Finally, a new record crucian carp was caught by record specialist Andreyts_ru. The 1 lb 1 oz specimen was enough to beat his own record which was caught back in October 2008. Well done to all who caught new records yesterday.

Todays match takes place on the River Thames at Chertsey and is fishing for pike and barbel. On the face of it, this doesn't seem likely to be too difficult a day, but until the rods go in, it's impossible to say. The tagged fish is a 12 oz 8 dr perch and worth a bonus of 4 extra points to anyone who catches it. Good luck to all fishing today.
